Prepare for Your Appointment
Unlike your family physician, you may not regularly see your sweat management specialist. So it’s important to ask the right questions when you visit.
Here’s a list of things for you to think about before you visit the specialist:
1. Consider gathering information on all the treatments you use or have used, including information about their level of effectiveness.
2. Open and print the Hyperhidrosis Diagnosis Form provided below. Bring it with you to your appointment once you’ve contacted a specialist from our list.
You’ll find the form is enormously helpful in helping you gain an accurate understanding of the extent and nature of your Hyperhidrosis. Open it and see for yourself – you’ll find it an invaluable tool.
3. To help your doctor determine your health risks, your genetic tendency toward Hyperhidrosis, or whether you have any medical conditions that can cause secondary Hyperhidrosis, note whether you or anyone in your family suffers from diabetes, anxiety disorders, or excessive sweating.
4. Ask a friend or loved one to come with you to your doctor appointment. They can help you remember to ask all of your questions, take notes, and request that the doctor explain confusing information. And, of course, they can offer support and understanding in a situation that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
You can contact any highly-trained sweat management specialist listed on this website to make an appointment. The specialists are sorted by city and province so that you can find one that is convenient. Most offices will be able to see you within two weeks.
Due to the medical nature of Hyperhidrosis, the doctor will not be able to answer questions specific to your condition without seeing you and making a medical assessment first.

Reimbursement
Many private health insurance plans cover the cost of the medications the doctor may prescribe for you. You should bring any private/extended insurance information (e.g. you may be covered by your employer, your student plan, or by other members of your family).
What the doctor will ask
The specialist will ask for your medical history to ensure there is nothing else that they need to consider. He/she may then ask you about the location and severity of your excessive sweating, when it first started, and whether there are other people in your family that suffer from the same condition.
The specialist will also need to consider what treatments you have tried in the past to determine the appropriate treatment. He/she will then recommend treatment based on your specific condition.
